MomFit

ABOUT PROJECT

After both carry and deliver a child, the mothers body changes from the original and it can be hard to feel content. Many women are doers and want to bring back their self-esteem and own well-being. The team decided we wanted to understand how can we best help them to achieve their health goals that also fits their schedule.

CHALLENGES

To focus the app to an exercise app an try not to add to many features that is a good idea, but to narrow it down to meet our main goals. And how big of a part the community should be included. Another big challenge we faced in this project was time. Since this was a delivery time on this project, we had to work tight with our timeline.

QUESTIONS

-What would motivate the user to use the application?

-How it would work and help users?

-Why this product is important?

-Who the mobile application will be for and what they are like?

-Where it would be used?

-When the app would be used?

SECONDARY RESEARCH

To get started we wanted to build an understanding of the state postnatal experience and postnatal exercise. An understanding of the terms, was both enlightening us about our assumptions and created new knowledge to be used in later research methods. and collected these in a data collection sheet.

Constrains:

Based on the type of birth each mother had there is advised different guides on how and when to exercise.

C-section:

Globally C-sections continues to rise, and there is sometimes complications related to this type of childbirth.

INTERVIEWS

We felt we lacked the emotions and reasons behind the founds in the literature reviews, so we decided to conduct interviews. We wanted to seek in-depth insights into new mothers feelings, thoughts, dailylife and habits are like. We did semi-structured interviews with 5 participants in the age from 27-33.

"I want to strengthening my body, it feels tender after two kids. And I want to get back to my fitness level and appearance"

"I want to strengthening my body, it feels tender after two kids. And I want to get back to my fitness level and appearance"

SURVEY

A survey was done for the reasons that we needed measurable number to find meaning to our assumptions and we then found some interesting facts we later used to develop our app features.

Individual Needs:

56% of the participants seeks personalized workout plans.

Lack of Guidance:

In 51% of cases the mothers experienced a lack of guidance about postnatal care.

Motivational Factor:

35% would like to track progress for fitness.

AFFINITY MAP

Helping sort out the all facts from the data collection info insights we did a team affinity map into themes and then formed insights in Miro. This made us aware of repetitive themes and what we can learn from our facts.

— Define

PROBLEM STATMENT

New mothers often feel self-conscious about their bodies after giving birth and they may battle with their self-image. They confront difficulties like low motivation and limited access to reliable information about postnatal exercises. The unmet physical and mental health needs highlight that proper guidance and support are important during the recovery. Our goal is to create a platform that provides mothers with all the important features they need to support their post-natal recovery.

EMPATHY MAP

To give life to the research and problem statement we created the primary user of the app, by making a empathy map. New mothers who isn't new to exercising and with a goal of getting body in shape and needs motivation to workout.

HMW

At this stage, we hit a creative block, so we developed How Might We questions to spark new ideas and define the app’s direction. We then created a mind map to organize and explore them.

How might we personalize the app experience for

different users?

…help new mothers feel more confident in their bodies?

…increase awareness of postnatal health?

CONCEPT DECISION

After using the HMW method, we generated several ideas and grouped them into three main concepts: Gamified app, Social network app, Guide app.

Choosing between them was challenging, as each aligned with our research insights. After a NUF test, the gamified app ranked highest, though we integrated key features from the others to create a more holistic solution.

MAPPING IT OUT

With the key features defined, we mapped the app’s structure to meet user needs. We began with a sitemap to organize the information architecture and determine page hierarchy, then created a user flow to visualize how users navigate and achieve their goals. This formed the foundation for the wireframing phase.

— Design

WIREFRAME

We first sketched some low-fi wireframes to ideate placement and features the app should include, based on our mapping. There were some iterations done when both sketching and making the digital wireframe, because of our unsureness with the best placement for different features.

DESIGN PRINCIPLES

Endowed Progress Effect – Progress Bar

Showing even small progress motivates users to complete tasks. We included a progress bar to keep users engaged and give a sense of accomplishment.

Scanning Patterns – Layer-Cake Structure

Clear headings and consistent hierarchy help users scan content naturally and find what they need quickly.

Proximity – Chunking

Related elements were grouped together to reduce cognitive load and make navigation intuitive.

Von Restorff Effect – Drawn to Contrast

Key actions stand out through contrast in color, size, or style, guiding attention and supporting decision-making.
